M4H P52 “Traditions” Eye Candy
I am so excited to get right into this week’s eye candy. The Holiday season is always a favorite of mine. I grew up in a family where Christmas brought everyone together despite how busy the year or the season was. My grandmother’s house especially was a sight to be seen. You couldn’t walk with your arms out in her home. It was just loaded with Christmas decoration goodness. So many warm memories that I wish my children could join in on.

this is quickly becoming a new tradition at our home. every night after dinner, my daughter wants to go outside and see the christmas lights. a neighbor across the street has an inflatable santa that she gets so excited about and she loves to hug, pet & kiss our reindeer.

This was our first year building a gingerbread house (notice the missing tip of the house-someone took a bite) and he took the placement of each piece of candy very seriously! Not much gets done around our house without his fireman uniform!

Week 49 ~ Tradition
We have so many traditions this time of year, one that I have already done is the decorating of the tree. Every year I hang this special bauble in honour of my Dad who passed away in 2007.

It is ‘Tradition’ every year at my children’s school for each class to present to parents and relatives a Christmas concert. This year Lucy chose to go dressed as an Angel – not so suprisingly a number of other 6 year old girls did too! I was so proud when she was presented with the class ‘Religious Award’. I actually think she just might be an angel!!

Over the mountain and through the woods (due to a “detour”) we went to hunt the perfect tree. Seemed kinda strange for it to be 60 degrees on this gorgeous December morning in PA, but it was a heart-warming, memorable time. Each year: different weather, more kids, same connections of love, freedom, and joy. π

The Christmas Pickle! Apparently it’s mostly an American tradition (with differing versions of how it came to be a tradition), but it’s just kind of fun to put on the tree. Tale has it, the first kid to find the Christmas Pickle on Christmas Day recieves an extra present or a year of good fortune. (have to try and reshoot this on a non LED lights tree lol, so bright! But I like how this turned out)

Last year was the 1st year I let the boy light the candles on the Advent wreath. Letting him light the candles, gets him involved and makes him feel special.

Every year I take my kids out to get our Christmas card shot….this year things didn’t go as planned. I am so happy I just went with it, instead of a perfect shot for a card most will throw away I have an image of my daughters that I just adore!

One of the many traditions that I remember has to do with is a special memory of my Grandma. Every year she sent me and my twin these Hershey’s ornaments. Back then I didn’t realize how much these little gifts would mean. Older and with her passing last year, these remind me of a small tradition that makes me smile and think of her.

Each December my dad pulls out the Christmas decorations, including the Christmas globes. And every year my son is fascinated with them and enjoys looking at them and admiring them. I love that he’s still enamored with their beauty and not lured away by the technology of this day and age instead. (because sometimes those digital toys do lure him away.)

This is our family’s Playmobil Nativity set which was given to me before we even had children almost 15 years ago. Every year, we all set it up, then it is constantly played with, and things get moved around. Each day brings a different scene. I love that it has always been one of our favorite family traditions!

Every year we make christmas cookies. We clear the dinner table and make a huge mess with the flour, the cookie dough, the cookie cutters while music playing. It is my favourite christmas activity.

Little Boy:10 Christmas Tree: 0
Last year we didn’t put our tree up until a couple of days before Christmas in fear that our little crawling baby would try to eat our tree π
What a difference a year makes…
This year I was quite excited of the idea of starting a tradition with my son by putting the Christmas tree up together….
Well, that hasn’t exactly gone to plan. Apparently Christmas balls are super fun to pull apart and bounce around the house.
Not exactly the image I had in mind for this week’s theme but I know in years to come it will bring a smile to my face.

Undecorating
This week, we got our tree up and decorated it. But, I think the twins have enjoyed undecorating the tree more than anything. The “shatter proof” ornaments have failed the twins tests of endurance. Let’s just say they’ve broken a few…and they shattered. I thought I had moved them all up high enough, but Benson found a couple that I missed. I still love the tradition of decorating, and the new tradition of undecorating, the Christmas tree.

My husband always brings me flowers on our anniversary. While it may be a predictable tradition I still adore it all the same. β₯

This picture contains about three of my family’s Christmas traditions.
1. The Christmas Tree itself.
2. Each year my family buys a new Christmas ornament for the tree.
3. The baking of homemade goodies.

48/52 – Traditions
In Australia, traditionally, it is hot hot hot at Christmas time (it got to 100 deg farenheit yesterday!!). Big blue skies and spectacular sunsets abound this time of year …………. but, like many other countries, Mum and/or Dad traditionally become a muliti-tasking, super-juggler of many things Christmas & simply many things (the red bow is thankfully hiding the kitchen chaos & bolognese bubbling away as this was shot) & they wear the odd traditional hat – SSSHHHhhhh…..

We started a new tradition this year. The Elf on the Shelf. My daughter loves her elf which she has so affectionately named “Elfie”. I am so happy that she’s having such a magical month this year!
