M4H P52 Week 13 | Nature Winner and Favorites

Yay for three months down already!! Some of you may have noticed I have slowly started to update flickr and post some photos yay. Yes I am always behind the curve! I am definitely playing a game of catch up but as we all know life tends to happen and with four kiddos and our daughter’s rheumatology appointments and all the craziness that seems to be our life right now we haven’t yet caught a breather!

This week was AMAZING. Seriously you are all incredible. I have a million photos I want to share (okay maybe not a million lol!) But like always I struggle to pick favorites and I am pretty sure this will be pretty image heavy! Thank you all so much who are still submitting your beautiful photos. Going through the flickr gallery has been such an amazing source of inspiration. It is absolutely a treat to go through and visit each one and sip my chai tea lol! I will be catching up with commenting asap too!!

This week’s fav took my breath away! My sister helped me choose some of the favs and when we both saw this it was the one.

Dropped both of my girls off this morning and FINALLY had some free time to wander around outside and take in the snow (yes, snow – 2 weeks ago it was 85 degrees and this morning we get snow) that was covering my newly emerged tulips and some other greenery around the house.

This photo wasn’t taken this week, but it holds a very special place in my heart. This is my daughter Grace, and every time I look at this image it makes me smile and remember exactly why I love photography. It’s the moments like these that I will cherish forever.

I thought it fit in well of this weeks theme of nature. Dandelions (or wish flowers as they are called by my kids) are an absolute favourite in my family, there are always squeals of delight when they find them hidden in the garden!

When I saw the theme nature, I didn’t automatically think nature as in outdoors like everyone else. My first thought was nature vs. nurture (genetics vs how you were raised).
I have depression, hence it’s genetic and has nothing to do with how I was raised. No amount of medication can cure what I have. Medication makes me somewhat normal. I will never be completely normal. I cry A LOT because I am constantly sad and it definitely shows in my work. Leaving our home of 9 years was extremely hard and I’m still trying to cope with it. I know everyone is going to say “You’re a military wife, you should be used to this.” When you assume something, it makes an ass out of you and me. I’ve been in an extremely bad funk since we moved to Ft. Hood TX. People don’t believe I’m depressed, I am constantly told that I don’t seem depressed. Just because I don’t look like you think I should because I suffer from this illness, doesn’t mean that I’m not. I have to hide it, so people won’t look at me weird. This is what depression looks like. Some days, I cry and cry and cry, and some days I’m okay. I know this is darker than the norm, but I just wanted to show people what depression looks like, for me.

Shhhhh….look closely. Do you see it? It’s BOKEH!!!! I made bokeh! I finally did it and I am so excited I think I might throw myself a party. Yeah, a bokeh party, that’s it. I will string up bokeh lights and serve bokeh burgers with a side of bokeh slaw. I will wear a bokeh bra and drink bokeh bombers and you are all invited. I am so pumped! Can you tell?!

Today is a great bokeh day! Please let me have my moment in bokeh history.

Nature ~ Aren’t we all just flowers in the sun?

We start small. We live through sunny days which help us grow, rains which nourish our souls, and storms which nearly end us, yet we survive.

But, flowers have no fear. They grow without worry of envy from other flowers, they don’t feel inferior to those taller, or superior to those not quite as tall.

Wouldn’t it be sad if a flower didn’t bloom at all, for fear that it’s colors wouldn’t be as bright, or that it’s petals may not be good enough for the world? Each one blooms in it’s own way, knowing without knowing, that’s all there is to life. Each one has worth. It really doesn’t matter if you are an early or late bloomer, just as long as you make sure to bloom to your full potential.

Boys+nature=Pure Joy. There is nothing that makes me happier then to see a little boy and a fishing pole. They don’t even have to catch anything to have a blast! I love how they can find joy in the simplest of things, the things that we sometimes take for granted. This week I’m thankful that I live in a place were little boys and fishing poles are a weekly occurance-weather permitting.

We had a little spring break lunch adventure at IHOP to get “The Lorax” pancakes. The lunch came with some seeds, inspired by the movie’s message of conserving nature. My kids are planting these seeds, really thinking they are going to get a truffula tree to grow. Hopefully something (anything?) will sprout!

This is our first spring living outside of Las Vegas where there isn’t much but desert and neon lights. We are so fortuante this spring to be down in South Texas and San Antonio where the wildflowers just have me amazed. I don’t know how many side roads we have pulled over on just for me to snap some pictures or grab a few of them. My girls LOVE to pick flowers and usually I have to stop them from picking flowers in everyone’s yard! However they are in heaven now picking wildflowers to their heart’s content. Just must be in their nature!
