“Well, I’ve been afraid of changing
‘Cause I’ve built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older
And I’m getting older too
Oh, I’m getting older too…”
-Landslide, Fleetwood Mac
I danced with my dad to the song Landslide at my wedding. I watched my husband talking to our daughter yesterday & I started humming the song: …”even children get older & I’m getting older too…”

M4H 26 OLD
M4H 26: Old. This is my youngest baby and her great grandma. There’s something about babies that makes us not quite so old. Great grandma actually got in the swimming pool to take a dip with my sweet baby, for her first swim ever. It was a wonderful day. <3

We visited Claude Monet’s garden yesterday and came upon the famous bridge and water lilies used for the painting dated from 1899. You can barely see her but now my daughter is part of the painting!

12 years
M4H 26/52: Twelve years ago I met my Carlos and I was 25 and he was 37. I thought it would take me forever to get to that age even though I didn’t think it was terribly old. But he (he who has worked on lobster boats and fishing boats and building houses his whole adult life) said wait til you are as old as I am, you will feel it. I laughed and said noooo. No I will not. You have no idea what you are talking about. And now I am 37. Some days I feel old. There are more lines in my face and I am more tired than when I was younger and I have more grey “highlights”. My joints in my legs especially, battered by years of gymnastics, require a little extra care. But there are still so many things I can do, despite my apparent elderly infirm. I can surf, I can run for many, many, many miles without stopping. I can solve almost any problem thrown at me. My stubbornness is half of it. He is almost 50 now and he says “wait til you get old. You’ll see”. When I’m 49 1/2 I’ll probably have taken over the world just because I want to prove him wrong.

This old swimming suit was originally mine many years ago. Audrey found it while going through a box of my things last summer and instantly fell in love as soon as she saw Wonder Woman. She has waited all winter long to wear it and now puts it on any chance she gets.

something {old} 26|52
On my wedding day, my mom surprised me with my “something old, something blue” by gifting me with this pouch. Inside was a note from her, “Something old, something blue, made with love just for you.” The velvet was from her own wedding gown fabric from 1971. The blue ribbon was once used to tie my braids as a little girl. The rhinestone initial pin was my grandmother’s from her teen years in the 1930s and inside was also a ring my grandmother wore in her young adult life. I treasure this gift and look forward to passing it on to my daughter one day as her something {old}.

Title: What’s this Mommy?
My 3 year old sees a typewriter for the first time. He had no idea what it did or why it did it. All he knew was that he liked pressing the buttons and watching what happened what this thing did.
Taken at Railroad Park in what is known as “Old Katy”.

59 days old. 16 days of which evaporated in the NICU. That doesn’t seem like a long time, but this was our last baby. I looked forward to every second of the newness, the squishiness, the cries, the scaley skin. I had plans for each of those 16 days. For the first six days he was on complete life support, it was days to hear him cry. No longer the little goat cry because he was so hoarse from the ventilator. The next 10 days we waited as one by one he came off each and every machine, every medicine, and was finally in our arms. Most people think that 16 days is still so new, but it felt so old to me. My baby lived and came home, there were several during our stay that didn’t. I grieved for them, I grieved for myself, and for the NICU doctors and nurses, to whom I will always be eternally grateful. The newborn phase is so short. Quickly they grow so big you can no longer imagine they were once in your belly. Thankfully they grow so fast that those first 16 days continue to get smaller and smaller and we have begun looking forward and not backwards.

M4H Week 26/52: Old
I am definitely Gen X, and lately I am seeing all the things I love so dearly are 20 years old. I am lately realizing I am forever stuck in the 90’s. A time when Doc Martens, flannel shirts, crazy colored hair, thrift stores, and being an individual was everything. Music was changed forever by Nirvana, and frankly in my opinion nothing will ever beat this era. These are one of my favorite pairs of Doc’s. They are torn tattered and falling apart, but I love them so. The 20th anniversary of Nirvana magazine was just fitting so I included it along with the old Doc’s.

One of my sweet local photog freinds collects and sells vintage items. This is her ADORABLE daughter in a vintage top and on a vintage ladder that she brought to our play date (which involved cameras of course). I could photograph this doll all day!

I love these, I will someday have a collection of old cameras. These are the first of many but these will always hold a special place in my heart. The mini was given to me from my mom which was given to her from her dad. The other my mother and father in-law passed them on to me because they new my passion for photography.

I got a love of photography and portraits from my father who was a very keen photographer. I was always willing to have my photo taken when I was a kid. The old image of me has always been an old favourite of mine, so much so that I wanted to recreate the image with my son because we are always being told we are such looky likies

I wish so much that this passion for photography would have struck me when I was young (er). I feel like I’m old in the world of photography. I admire so many and although I still have plenty of time to improve and keep dreaming and forge ahead in this art, I often feel like I’m outside looking in…trying to find “me” in this photography world.

Week 26 { Old }
With time and the loss of my mother three years ago, I have acquired quite a bit of “old”. The gray hair popping up here and there on my head are Not photo quality but this little assortment is. Everything from a hundred year old coca cola bottle to a WWII postcard from my granddad to my mom when she was only a tot. Time travel is possible and yesterday, I was at the driver’s seat. Best trip I have taken in quite a while.
