Shooting with Heart | The New Educational Video Series Lesson One

One of the biggest  challenges I know photographers tend to face is finding a way to connect with their clients in a way to foster true, beautiful emotion. We get so wrapped up in perfection and what  we perceive as the right way to do things, we fall short. We get frustrated. We burn out. We then just can’t get to the other side where the work we have been longing to make resides. It is so easy to go through the same motions and in turn yield consistent images, but if you are wanting more from your work and are ready to push yourself out of your comfort zone, you can absolutely get to that next level.

The truth is we all have the ability through our own unique gifts and perspectives, to make this honest, unique kind of work. The way we approach our sessions matter. From the very beginning when a family lands on your portfolio– to the end of your session when you are sending their gallery off, you are sowing trust and creating an experience that others may not even be willing to provide. In this video series, I will be sharing both the technical AND emotional aspects of how I create the work that I do for myself and my clients.

In Lesson One, I will be sharing how my typical session experience with my clients is like and how I make them feel comfortable with me.  I include how I direct my families to get them connected and keep them closer, what I am looking for in a “moment” and how I stay in control of my sessions (or know when to just let that control go.)  We will cover family-led sessions and why directing works for me better than posing (and what that means), how long my sessions typically last and what kind of information I send my clients before their session to prepare them. We even cover my full session workflow. Some of this is in practical application and some of it may take a willingness to be bold and try something entirely new.

You will also learn how I speak to my families so you know the way we interact during our shooting, and how I get to know them well enough to look for those intimate connections. We go over what I say from the moment we all arrive. I have included slides throughout with my favorite gear recommendations and why I chose what lenses I do. We als0 cover what I do when I get a family that just won’t stop staring at me.  I also share my typical camera settings as well as how I focus and meter and so much more!! You will watch me shoot the family shown and get a glimpse at some of my thought processes behind some of their images.

So if you are a visual learner and are hoping to gleam a new way of photographing families OR you are just looking to add some new tips to your bag, this video is for you.
