Whats In My Camera Bag

This is ONE of my bags. I admit I have a problem lol! I am addicted. In addition to this GORGEOUS Gray Belle from Epiphanie I also own a red Epiphanie Lola, a Jo Tote and two Kelly Moore bags (A mimi and a Juju) I am def well equipped with any outfit or color palate I decide to wear on any given day lol! I have to say out of ALL my bags though my Epiphanie is my FAVORITE. It holds just about close to all my gear. Let me tell you that is no small feat. They are VERY well made. I plan to buy more. In fact I have my eye on their new Lyric in Yellow for fall! I did a giveaway with them recently and had an incredible response! I hope to do another one in the future!

Anyhow.

I get a ton of questions about my gear on any given day on my Facebook FAN page. I use a lot of different lenses. I have to say I was reluctant to post this page. Anyone that follows me on Facebook does know I am somewhat an open book so it had nothing to do with competition or anything of that nature. I just didn’t want people to feel that their gear defines them. Let me say whether you are rocking a point and shoot or a top of the line professional DSLR your images are yours not because of your gear but because of YOU. You give me a paint brush and I am not going to turn into Picasso. You give me a pot and I am not going to be able to do it up Rachel Ray style. (My husband wishes) Take your time and know what you have to the full extent possible and then upgrade. It will save you a headache and make you a stronger photographer. I know this because that is me. I started with a canon Digital Rebel and slowly upgraded. It made a world of difference in my images. With that being said. I am a Canon Girl.  I am a Canon girl to my core. Not knocking Nikon or any other body because I actually think they are amazing as well. This is just my bag. I actually was on a session not to long ago and someone with a Nikon asked me to take a group photo… Yeah I looked like an idiot lmao! I couldn’t even figure out how to zoom the lens on the camera!

Some things to know about me. I only shoot with primes. Will that ever change? Not sure but its a huge component of my style. I do have to move around a lot on my sessions to compensate for the fact that the lens will not move for me. I don’t mind at all though. Aside from the good exercise I appreciate that I have to sometimes think outside the box and position myself in unique ways or consider angles that i may not of otherwise experimented with. I like primes because they are compact, work well in low light and tend to be a bit sharper. They also produce a much shallower depth of field and have the prettiest bokeh!:)

Anyway I will quite rambling. This is what I am packing.

Canon 5d Mark II

Canon 5d Classic (Yes I do happen to shoot with two bodies on occasion. It helps me save time so I am not constantly switching lenses off and on as often. It is also nice because it saves my sensor if I happen to be shooting in a dusty or sandy enviroment.)

Canon 85 1.2L Gorgeous bokeh and almost a dreamy quality to the images I get with this one. It really is amazing. I use it all the time for portraits especially!

Canon 35 1.4L I purchased this lens looking for a good wide angle for my full sensor camera. It wasn’t quite as wide as I was thinking it would be but quickly became one of my most used lenses. It has a great focal length for interacting with your subjects, is great in lower light and is tack sharp!

Canon 24L This lens fits all my wide angle needs.:)More of a creative lens at the moment but I love it!

Canon 15mm Fish Eye Fun creative lens!

Canon 90mm Tilt Shift Another Fun Creative Lens

Canon 50mm 1.4 Honestly don’t use this one much. I may eventually though.

Canon 100L Macro LOVE this lens for macro shots of newborns especially!

Hope that helps some a little bit!

I love what you said about not turning into Picasso just because you have a paintbrush. So true! All the expensive gear in the world won’t make a difference if you don’t know how to use it.

I asked what you use on another post. Sorry. I didn’t know this was here yet. But thank you so much for you knowledge and sharing your experience.

You have bunches of prime lenses. I was thinking about getting the 85mm, but I’m nervous about prime. I take pics of kids alot and afraid I won’t be able to keep up with the running with a prime. Any recommendations? Do you have problems with this?

Loved your prologue, we do tend to get obsessed with gear don’t we. A fisherman once told me, that the many pretty lures available catch more people than fish, as does camera gear :) … and as you sort of said, … you can’t buy talent!! (for the record I use Nikon, but absolutely agree with your comments and also love primes).
