M4H “Inside” Winner and Eye Candy

Our Third week of Eye Candy is here! There are so many stories. I am loving our groups on Flickr and Facebook. I feel like I am getting to know you all so well by your images alone. We are certainly building a special community. I try to pop in and comment when I can but I am always reading, always checking in and out throughout the week. This week’s Eye Candy is going up a bit later than normal due to the holiday here in the states. Our children are home for the day and I am a family first kinda gal so when they are all home from school our posts will be up in the evenings versus the mornings. (My time which is MTN time zone.)

As a refresher, every Monday I browse the Flickr Group, the Facebook Group and the Fan Page for image shares to feature here from our project 52’s past weekly theme. I generally don’t limit the amount of images I choose. That is nearly impossible lol!

I took this today after I got home from a long week at work while my little one was painting. I was trying to decompress and squeeze in some practice with a lensbaby in between a session of listening to my older daughter’s preschool teacher express concern that she was overly emotional this week and my littlest’s bath time. Of course she proceeded to poop in the tub (and again on her sister’s rug when I took her out to clean the bath poop) because that’s just the way the week is going around here.

I looked at it later and thought to myself that this is exactly how I feel on the inside right now. All the colors of my life, mother, wife, daughter, student, sister and professional, are all running over one another and sometimes it’s beautiful and sometimes it’s not. Inside and out, it’s a beautiful mess of an existence.

You never know what you will find inside an old drawer. Last Thanksgiving my brother and I were discussing our photography and our grandmother said there may be some of our grandfather’s photo stuff still in his drawer. Our poppy has been gone 24 years this month but she still had his dresser drawers intact. Both of us found some really nice keepsakes inside of this drawer.

As I sat inside my warm truck getting ready to run through the rain into Freddy’s (even tho it should be snowing I do live in Alaska) I could’t stop looking at the beautiful sky. Here I sat while people all around me where running to grabbing this or that, finishing up their day or just starting theirs. I couldn’t help but smile because as I too needed to be running I took a minute to stop inside this busy world to enjoy something simple. I realized it’s not about what’s going on all around us, what matters most is what’s going on right inside your heart…. we all live inside our own little worlds

There is so much going on inside this body. There is the obvious: the pregnant, growing belly. Then there is the overflow of emotions- the overwhelming joy and love, and the anxiety and insecurities that also come with growing a baby. It’s hard to comprehend how I am going to love another child as much as my first son, but I hear your heart grows with each new addition, rather than splits. While I am being pulled in a million directions throughout the day, this little one is moving around inside of me like crazy-constant reminders of the miracle growing inside of me.

I love living in a rural place with winding back country roads. These friends were spotted as they walked towards the fence line. Taken for theme ‘inside’. A perfect opportunity to do a still life and use some textures, something I haven’t done in a while. I am not 100% happy with this but I need to upload and move on 🙂 I was going for a darker look here than my usual work. I used a softbox app on my tablet and turned all the lights out to get some directional lighting.

Such a personal picture for me. After having my first son I was so self conscious about my body, I felt ugly on the outside. My body wasn’t what it once was, and probably would never be again. After my second son was born I realized how beautiful my body actually was. I created these two “perfect” little humans. So here is my imperfection that is so perfect to me.

I am so thankful that even in my imperfection that I can praise and worship my God and He does not see me in my imperfection. Another note on this image is that I love to sing songs to my Lord, my voice is far from perfect but it does not stop me. I might aggravate my kids singing the wrong words at times but its okay because I treasure those memories of my mom doing the same and I hope one day they will as well. My husband says I sound like an angel but that man has such a passionate love for me that I think he has some sort of muffs that make it sound that way to him and the sheer joy to know that he deeply does mean what he says are the times I come out of the tub from singing and my hubby is wiping his tears. Our love over the years has been imperfect at times but I am thankful that God makes all things good and perfect in His time!

This week i had a lot of different ideas in my head, different directions I could go with this but in the end I just really loved the feel of this shot the best. Something about the way the light comes through the fabric – I just love it. The original idea behind using this piece of lingerie was because it is so old and not in the best condition but something that is meaningful to me because of the history that it has. And even though this is a “technically” imperfect shot I really wanted to just let the background be blown out. I think it sort of conveys the lightness of the dress and how fragile it is. *side note – this dress was my grandmothers and is from Italy and she gave it to me Thanks Nonna!!

You will probably see a lot of my posts about this little guy. This is Knox. Knox is our twin survivor. He was born 16 weeks early, and is our former 24 weeker. He has overcome so much in the past 44 weeks of his life. Avoiding a PDA ligation, having eye surgery, breathing machine after breathing machine, damaged lungs (still overcoming), grade 3 and 4 brain bleeds, brain damage, multiple blood transfusions, kidney stones (still overcoming) massive hernias and I’m sure I’m forgetting something. This imperfect child of mind is absolutely perfect. I can wait for the day we can bring him home

This is not your ‘normal’ equine with these long ears and braying sound but SO sweet and humble! They carry the cross on their back which is definitely a great daily reminder for me to try to be more ‘perfect’! (It is said that a donkey carried Mary to Bethlehem and is also referred to as a Nativity Donkey and on the trip to Egypt. The donkey has a cross on its back because it was said to believe that these donkeys carried Jesus to Jerusalem on Palm Sunday.)

My mom is currently battling Breast Cancer and was brave enough to allow me to take these images of her. Although some may consider scars to be an imperfection, I find them beautiful. They tell stories of our adventures, our sorrows and all that we have overcome. I look at my mom’s scars and I see her strength and the grace that she has. When I was a little girl I remember tracing the “Z” on her hand before falling asleep. I look at her now and admire her for the person she is. Our bodies are not US and they do not define who we are, but those scars sure do say a lot.

We’re all perfectly imperfect. I have a crooked nose, one eye higher than the other, no matter how hard I try I can’t seem to keep my desk clean for longer than 24 hours, I stay in my pajamas until I absolutely need to change, I stack my dirty dishes in the sink instead of washing them right away, I have a very narrow temperature range I can tolerate (ranging from 68-75 degrees), I have food allergies ranging from gluten to watermelon (yes, watermelon), and a passionate soul that often gets mistaken for a bad temper.

And although I’m working on some of these things (for my fiance’s sake haha), I honestly can say that I’ve come to embrace all my imperfections because it is what makes me who I am
