  1. M4H P52 Weekly Theme Weather

    The Theme this Week is:
    Weather

Living in Colorado our weather has been all over the place. We had 3 days of snow and now the weather is supposed to be in the 70s! I thought it would be fun to do a take on nature inspired spring to see what you have going on in your part of the world.
Remember to have fun! As always too if you find this theme just doesn’t do it for you, you can absolutely choose one of your own or post an image without a theme that represents your week.

  2. Inspired, A Very Special Project | Jessica Deane Photography

From her whimsical meets real life perspective and the gorgeous stories her images tell Jessica Deane has such a magical take on her photography. I love her creative perspectives and gorgeous use of light. For me the images she captures of children are timeless, honest and so beautiful. It is such a wonderful opportunity to feature her here. Jessica is a poignant, gifted photographer but she is also a beautiful person inside and out. Let’s get to know her even better!

You can find Jessica’s Website HERE and her Facebook Page HERE. You can also find her on instagram HERE.

    Hi Jessica!

Lets get to know you! How would you describe yourself in three sentences?
    I’m goofy & I love to laugh.  I’m a lover of childhood.  I’m thankful.

What sparked your passion for Photography?
My children.  Really.  I realized early on after becoming a mom that I longed to capture their childhoods.  The good, bad & ugly.

    Whats in your camera bag?
    5D mark 3.  50 1.4 35L & 85 1.8

What Camera/Equipment did you start out with?
    My trusty 30D & 50 1.8

Jessica was kind enough to share one of her starting out pictures.

If you could only use one lens an entire session which one would you choose and why?
My 35L probably.  I love the bokeh & focal length.

What advice would go give to someone just beginning in photography and hoping to have a business of their own?
Practice practice practice!  Learn your camera inside & out.  DONT open a business up after two weeks of getting your camera.

What was your first official Photographer crush if you had one?
Hmmmm. first official?  I was inspired by many in the beginning & still am… but the one I fell in love with that sparked what I wanted to capture was Sheye Rosemeyer.  Her words with her images have made me do the ugly cry more than once.  Her work is real… raw… & honest.

What kind of photos do you like to take for just yourself when not working with clients?
I love capturing the everyday….toddlers with messy faces….. & tangled hair….. running around in their undies.

If you could photograph absolutely anyone who would it be dead or alive?
My grandmother.  I realize now… I dont have enough images of her with my children.  I wish I could change that.

Describe your style in 3 words.
    Magical.  Real.  Nostalgic.

Most embarrassing moment on a session would be?
hmmm.  It would probably be from this summer.  A fellow photographer traveled down from PA just for me to photograph her family & while using a friends field their dog kinda interrupted our shoot.

Any challenges you have had to overcome to be where you are today?
I had to stop listening to others telling me what/how my images should be.  I stopped listening to others voices & started following my heart.  I shoot for myself now.

Favorite time of day to shoot is?
indoors, all day long.  Outdoors, right before sunset.

If you had to stop taking photos right now, what would you do instead?
I would continue to raise my children.

Have you attended college or had any formal education in Photography?
    Nopers.

What do you do to get your clients to relax with you?
I’m just myself….  I’m constantly talking , telling jokes & laughing with them.

What are your photography related goals for 2012?
I would love to branch out locally & market myself better.

How do you push yourself to keep growing and learning? Any Big Aha! Moments?
I’m constantly learning.  I’ve taken a few online courses these past few months & have learned so much from them! My biggest AHA moment is FINALLY seeing the light.

    Biggest Photography related insecurity?
That I will pour my heart & soul into someones images & they will not love them.

    Digital or Prints?
I’d love to go all digital… but there’s just something about opening up a package of prints and seeing your work.

How do you set yourself apart from other local photographers?
I hope my work speaks for itsself.  I’m just me.  I shoot what I love & I think its different from others locally.

What do you think your next photography related investment will be?
I’d love to upgrade from the 50 1.4 to the 1.2.

If you had to recommend ONE thing that a photographer needs in their camera bag what would that be?
The 5d3.  SERIOUSLY.  The ISO capabilities on this thing… drool.  My best investment thus far.

What would you say your biggest muse is?
