My Mom at 16 and at 60. She has been an inspiration to me for my entire life. She has worked hard her whole life, raised two children on her own, loves her grandkids, she is very creative, she loves unconditionally, she has a huge heart……the list goes on and on. There is not enough room here to tell you all the ways she inspires me. This one is for you Mom!!! xoxo

I thought of many things for this week’s challenge as many people inspire me, and let’s be honest, Pinterest is a wealth of inspiration.

I kept coming back to one special photographer, Ansel Adams. In 1998, this photographer became responsible for opening my eyes to the world of photography. He was the first one to stop me in my tracks and make me realize what a truly beautiful medium this is. This inspired me to document what I see even though it took a few years for me to begin my journey. I’m always amazed with his work.

This is Tracy. I know that some of you have seen her beautiful face from time to time. She has had five back surgeries to correct a severe curve in her spine. I won’t go in to the details only to say that she is in pain every day. She has taught me to never look at someone and assume that they don’t have a hurt that they’re hiding. I always photograph her to make her look as straight as possible. Tracy asked me to photograph her the way she really is. I wish I could take this from her..but she has said that she wouldn’t give it away..it’s a part of her soul.
I was afraid that she’d be upset when we looked at the photos but she wants to do more. This was a dry run..inspired by Kate Parker’s break out session with Clickin Moms..it was taken in our garage.

What inspires my creativity the most is going outside on a sunny day and feeling the warmth of the sun on my face. Then I take a look around at all of nature’s beauty and how the sunlight enhances it and allows that inner beauty to be released. There are so many colors in nature and they transform before your eyes when a beam of sunlight sweeps through them.

I am inspired by how creative my kids are, especially my 11 year old daughter Abbie. She made me these flowers out of tissue paper and pipe cleaners and filled a jar with stones from our garden, they have pride of place on the chest of drawers in my bedroom and I love that they were a gift from her.

Nana’s back. And there’s a good reason for it. Because when I saw this week’s theme, I knew that no one had inspired me lately as much as Nana. And she’s not even my Nana, she’s my friend’s Nana. But she’s 101 years old and still laughing and enjoying life. She’s 101 years old and takes the time to accessorize and put on purple nail polish. She’s 101 and told me that the secret to life is to “Never be bored.” And that “Even a bad situation will make a great story some day.” Nana – I’m so inspired by you.

This is my favorite place in all the world, and it’s probably hers, too. It was mad crazy windy, and there she was, yelling like a crazy person to the waves. The pink, the blue, the brown: I love this photograph. To be inspired is, at its root, to breathe in, to be filled with breath. This place makes me feel that way, and the day I took this, the wind felt like the wind of inspiration.

    M4H 52 Week Project – “So Inspired”
Our Daily Challenge: Signs of our humanity

I am a lover of words. They move me deeply and I can’t even read a novel without writing down well crafted phrases that captivate me. Certain words inspire me to change and these are some of my favorites. Amazing how significant and meaningful one word can be. (Meet Qwerty, my “new” vintage typewriter. I’ve wanted one of these for ages.)

Nature is what truly inspires me.
It is bleak and cold this time of year and I was having trouble finding something to photograph outside. Then I looked out this afternoon and the clouds just looked so heavenly as the sun was setting. A perfect example of why nature is so inspiring to me .

Light definitely makes up for a lot of my inspiration…I love playing with different ways to make my subjects look like they’re “glowing” (haha).

Whenever I’m looking through different images on Flickr, I love noticing the way the photographer managed to play with the light…I always find it intriguing that you can alter the light in so many different ways and get a beautiful image every single time. Whether its landscape photography, macro, portrait, light is so important!

And, you can’t forget about the sun flares!! This morning, the sun was shining bright through my window, and definitely wasn’t letting me study. I had to do this (yes, I absolutely had to). The scene inspired me so much that I had to run downstairs, grab my camera, do a quick post-processing session and share! Yay 😀

This week has inspired me a lot too – to do better, and improve…so many different people noticing my photography, and it’s given me a huge boost! I thank you all for your comments and favourites – they really mean a lot, and I appreciate them all.

This event inspired me in so many ways: My husband rode his first road race at the age of 53. I was inspired to get up early and go and take pics. The event itself was inspiring because it was raising funds for orphans both locally and across the world. The best news – they raised $22 000-00 to help the orphans. And yes my husband is in this pic – in the front of the 3rd group (so kind of blurred – but I got better pics of him closer up).

Pretty stressful week with two midterms and my GK exam to get accepted into the College of Education.
    But!
I passed! …the GK at least, so now I just need to worry about two more exams next week and finishing up a rather challenging painting. Why did I have to choose a very symmetrical and many-colored picture frame?!

Sorry this is kinda boring and cliche and nudey. But it fits the vulnerable, stressed feeling I’ve had all week. Anyway, next week I will most definitely have something better.

I’m just ready to spend the weekend studying, sleeping, and lazing with my boy.

The love that my grandparents shared inspired me. I kept this book that my grandfather wrote in, and this is what he wrote about his first kiss… “my main kisser is my wife. When she kisses you, you forget about everything else. That’s why we have been married for almost 58 years. A kisser you never forget. That’s my wife”.

Today I visited a location I had been desperately wanting to see for what seems like months. Finally today we had perfect warm and overcast weather and I took the kids down to explore. What I found today was so inspiring and beautiful, I came home with so many images and beautiful memories I will treasure always. I deleted my previous image for this weeks theme and replaced it with this image as it was definitely more fitting, hope you don’t mind 😉

Some days I am so inspired, so very inspired it feels like I can’t breathe. I want to get out there and do it, make something beautiful, capture something beautiful…… some days I lose that inspiration. It’s gone, not there. I have to search, open my eyes, try, tell myself that I am only human and it will come to me eventually. Some days are a good day, some days, not so good. So, on those bad days I put my camera down, turn computer off, go play with my kids and remind myself that tomorrow is another day, quite possibly the day that will be full of inspiration… it will be, I just know it and I can’t wait.

  2. Letters to My Daughters | My dear girls

    Dearest Lillian and Sophia,

I have been watching the relationship you two have very closely. You see, myself and your Ti-Ti are about ten years apart give or take. You two have about 7 years between you and sometimes I recognize so much of my own sisterhood with your auntie and then there are days when I truly feel you two couldn’t be anymore different.  When your aunt was just a baby I took her on as my own living breathing baby doll. I cherished her.  I took her everywhere I went.  She was such a part of me. Little pieces of me in such a special package.  Naturally when I was pregnant with you, Lillian, some of that transferred right onto you from Ti-Ti as you were the exact same age difference as I was from her. I had kind of thought that may trickle right on down to you and your own baby sister.  Kind of like a special chain.  I have realized however that things wouldn’t be quite exactly the same.  Sure there are days when you proclaim “Princess Days” for Sophia. You dress her up and paint her nails.  You two take on the world, or at least your brothers together.  She is your perfect little playmate. But I also understand that at ten years old you like your space.  It can be challenging having your baby sister forever interested in your things.  I know there are times when you look away and other times when you just can’t ignore it.  I want to tell you as your mother that this is okay. You two are individuals. You are not me. Sophie is not Ti-Ti.  I can tell you somethings from experience though.  I love that you are both individuals and you embrace each other but are perfectly capable of being independent. When you two grow up you will be all the closer for that. Best friends at the very least.  I can tell you all this from the experience I have with my own baby sister.  I wasn’t perfect. Being a teenager when your auntie was just a small child there were moments when I came home to a flooded bedroom (Ti-Ti was found of playing “Barbie Jacuzzi” with her friend while I was out.) or finding my make up smeared on clothing or missing all together.  But as an adult now I truly covet her.  Our relationship and bond has grown stronger. And there is a bit of that same maternal instinct in your as there was in me at your age Lillian.  It will get easier.

Sophie I know it hurts sometimes when your sister gives you the cold shoulder. Know this too will pass. It isn’t personal darling. Take heart.  I see things you personally couldn’t. Like for instance the way your sister hovers and looks over you when you might be doing something you shouldn’t. You may think shes tattling but I see the tale times of genuine concern.  The way she holds your hand in public. The way she let’s you play dress up in her special clothes and sometimes gives you her favorite dolls when you play together. The way she runs to tell me something cute or funny you do and you can see the pride shining in her eyes.  Yes Sophie. She loves you and I have no doubt she would do just about anything for you.  You are a blessed little girl to have siblings that adore you and protect you. You aren’t just my baby. You are their baby as well.

Just know that God has chosen to give you a very special gift. Sisterhood is something I have always wanted for you Lillian so know that Sophie is an opportunity of a lifetime. You will never quite have friends like your siblings. Honor each other.  Most blessed of all though is me. I not only get to be your mommy I get to nurture you and watch you all grow apart and together.

I love you both so much,

    Mama

Now please head on to my amazing friend Rashmi Pappu and read her beautiful letter!!!! You can find her HERE.
