M4H P52 “Home” Winner and some Eye Candy

One thing I really learned about being home is it isn’t necessarily the walls that keep you but the people who reside with you. Whether it be your husband, your friends, your children or even your pets the company you keep is really what makes home feel like home. I grew up in Connecticut on the shoreline and thought I would never leave. When my family decided to just up and move to Colorado it was more then a shock to my family and friends. I admit I dealt with homesickness the very early months of moving and do on occasion still but it is more then amazing to be here with my sweet husband and children!! I was moved going through the flickr gallery and am so excited to share the gorgeous photos that caught my eye in the flickr gallery. As always I wish I could choose them all!!

This week’s winner will receive a $50.00 Gift Card to my shop at http://www.myfourhensphotography.com/shop. Be sure to email me or utilize the contact form so I can give you your prize. 🙂

The winner for this week really touched my heart. I loved this image so much not only for the obvious fact that it is beautiful but for what it represents. It also really reiterates that home is more then a house. I really love to delve into your interpretations and get a feel for how you all think and see things. It reminds me of how blessed I am to be a photographer. Life is just so profoundly subjective!

When I was preparing for my baby’s birth, I did a lot of meditation. I would mentally escape to the safest place I knew: our big, comfy bed. At that time I had no idea what was to come. A very, very challenging high needs baby who would nurse non-stop during the day, as well as all through the night. Six months later, not too much has changed! Indeed, this big, comfy bed has become our home.

When I check in on my little ones before my own bedtime each night, seeing this little tushie up in the air, the head never on the pillow, sheets tossed to the side and hear that snore that’s not quite a snore…well then I know all is right with the world and I am where I am meant to be – right at home.

The My Four Hens Project 52 theme this week is home. I sooo wish this had been last week’s theme because I have an amazing photo that I created for Shooting 301: Composition and Creativity just last week. This workshop is challenging me, stretching me, and expanding me in ways I didn’t realize I was missing. The workshop is taught through Clickin Moms and is led by the amazing Sarah Wilkerson.

We arrived home after bedtime last night, after a slightly unsuccessful and frustrating attempt to get a photo in the Texas bluebonnets with my own children during the golden hour, and I was feeling discouraged. The kids were tired and grumpy and so was I. This class has been consuming me and my kids are sick of having the camera in their faces. (In fact, I posted a Model Call post on my Facebook page if you know of anyone in the Austin area who would be willing to pose for me!) As we rounded the bend at the top of the street, I saw the full moon softly glowing down on our house and I literally gasped out loud. I knew that this would be a perfect photo for this week’s theme.

After the kids went to bed, I took my tripod, remote release, macro lens, and camera down the street and set up smack in the middle of the street. I set the shutter speed at 0.8, 1.3, and 2 seconds, all at f/2.8 and ISO 200, then merged the three photos together to get this one. This is what I see when I come home after dark on a night with a full moon. Home Sweet Home. We’ve lived here since 1999 and it has seen Anna and Dominic come home from the hospital; it’s seen Jenny move out and go off to college; it’s seen a fire truck twice and an ambulance once; it’s seen a separation and reconciliation; it is home; this is my home.

    Thanks for looking!

My dad built this house. I grew up here. Now, I live here with my husband. Some day it’ll be my turn to raise a family here. I like the history of it. I love that I know the bare bones of it (I know where the creaks in the floors are, I remember what my room looked like when it was just a skeleton of 4×6 studs & beams, I know the sounds it makes when it groans & settles in for the night) and that some day my kids will, too.

The Home I wish to portray in this image is the fact that my husband is home! He was deployed the first five months of our daughter’s life but miraculously on R&R for her birth! This picture I took the evening after he got off the plane from Afghanistan. It has been intense love between the two ever since and I could not be more blessed

I like to use each week as a way to grow and improve my skills and capture new images with the theme in mind, but this theme immediately made me think of this time in my life. I did however utilize new editing techniques I’ve learned since this picture was captured (o:

    P52 week 14, “Home”

Home is definitely my heaven. I have spent my entire adult life finding a way to be at home with my family at all times. It’s filled with a sweet chaos. Laughter. A little fussing. Loud music and lots of smiles. The best part of our day… when we hear the door knob jiggle and the turn of a key. Squeals will be heard along with running feet. “Daddy’s home!!!” And we are all complete.

Home: a place where you spill the entire bucket of crayons on the floor and scatter them with joy, where it’s ok that you crawl around with no pants on, where drawers are broken (and missing) with no immediate plans of replacement ;), where loveys are always close, where you pick up and move on, yet where you find comfort and consistency when the world outside swirls with change, where you are real and you and abundantly loved…

After 10 years living in 6 different cities you really feel this way, home is where your family and loved ones are, no matter where it is a hotel room, your parents house, a friends house, the car that you are using for a week to move around or the new place where you are living…home is where your heart is, and there is no place like it!

When I leave the room, after folding laundry, and I come back to find my one year old has unfolded it all and and is using the laundry basket as a chair to watch “Peppa Pig”, I know I am home! 🙂

She also took her diaper off and it was quite the sight! I got some great shots of her like that but she wasn’t being modest AT ALL so none were appropriate to post on here, dang it!

    14/52 Prompt: Home

    Caption:
    14/52 Prompt: Home

    M4H Project 52.

‘Home’ is where I walk the beaches a few times a week. And sit on the granite rocks that face the ocean head on, looking for a message in a bottle. (I believe one exists.) And home is where I feel an affinity with the water, and the wind, and the sand beneath my feet. And where the birds and sounds of the waves crashing onto the shore is sweet music to my ears. Home is where I sit and dream and reach for the sky, and sometimes even have a good cry, but its always a place where I feel the most nourished, soothed, refreshed, and better off for having gone.

    Home (waiting for you)

    Caption:
    Home (waiting for you)

This theme resounded with me in a much different way than I would have expected just a short time ago. We have, as you can see, 4 beautiful boys (even when they’re being silly and making funny faces and NOT sitting still!). Last year we felt called to adopt, something we had considered for about a decade. We have been on the waiting list in Russia for about 7 months now, waiting to bring our daughter HOME. Our oldest son is holding our completed home study, our 6 yr old is holding a clay Russian flute we bought in Russia several years ago and the baby is holding the quilt Gramma already completed for her (she’s hoping we can use it as a transition item to leave in the orphanage when we have to leave her not once, but 2 or 3 times before we can bring her home). Our 8 year old is holding the heart of our home — Family, Friends and FAITH. Our home is waiting to give a family to a child who has none. To give brothers to a sister. To give a HOME.
