What Colorado Camping looks Like | Personal Alert

This is one of those posts that probably tell it’s own story in images, but I thought a little background would be fun. We woke up one morning and my husband decided that we should take the kids on one last “hurrah” so to speak. Summer is most definitely spiraling down, in fact I have absolutely no idea where it went. His idea of our last great summer adventure was five hours away in the Sand Dunes National Park in our home state of Colorado. I admit I am totally a lover of all things spontaneous so I quickly agreed. We packed up the kids, our two dogs, and the car and headed on out. Problem was we forgot to check the forecast. About 2 and a half hours in, the sky got insanely dark. We checked then and sure enough.. thunderstorms. We made it in time for sunset and decided to grab a hotel room for the night. With two dogs, options were limited so we made due. I would have loved to explore more, but two days had to do and the weather wasn’t all that ideal. It worked out perfectly though. We found a camping spot the very next day, hunkered down and stayed over night. I also learned a few things like…make sure you bring enough padding or an air mattress for sleeping in the tent. Being fairly pregnant, and sleeping on hard packed dirt is kinda rough. I also learned though, that taking four kids camping really is memorable in a special way. We had never attempted it before (total camping newbies here.) and it was such a great experience. We also took the kids to an alligator farm, in which my husband held a baby alligator and I even touched it for a split second (major life accomplishment lol!), and got to see rainbows on two different occasions. I miss this place already though. I also have to share how excited I was there was a Dunkin Donuts in Colorado Springs on our way there. Being from New England, and not having one in Fort Collins, it was such a big treat!  Can’t wait to get back in fact to both camping, and yes.. Dunkin Donuts lol!

I will let the pictures do the rest of the talking. Most of them are in order, except for a few I threw in as an afterthought.

Now please head to my talented friend Jules of Jules Trandem | San Diego Family Photographer  HERE to see how her month was.
