Letters to My Daughters | Dearest Lillian

I can not even believe that another month has come and gone since my last post. Things have been fairly chaotic around our household preparing for summer vacation and with all the birthdays coming up so we have been running around like a bunch of crazy people. I have been thinking on this post for quite some time now. I knew with Lillian’s tenth birthday fast approaching it would be as always an emotional one so I apologize if this is super sappy. Also This BEAUTIFUL Dress that Lillian is wearing was sent via My LIttle Jules!! You can find their shop HEREย and on Facebook HERE.

And as always be sure to head on over to Stephanie from Lifeography who is not only so incredible talented but one of the most beautiful writers. I am so excited to continue to follow her journey through this as well as all the talented ladies in our circle!

    Dearest Lillian,

In just a few days you will be turning ten. It has been such a wonderful and beautiful journey thus far. I have had the opportunity to see the world grow and change through your eyes and you have done the unthinkable. You have allowed me to rediscover princesses and princes, fairies and giants, and mermaids and fairy tales with happy endings. You have shown me that magic is real. You have taught me what it is to love fiercely and unconditionally. The day you came through my womb and into my arms I was born again. My eyes were opened. I was forever changed.

I found love at a young age. Your father and I started our family sooner then most. As a very young woman with goals and plans I wasn’t exactly sure when we found we had made such a sweet miracle on the way how we would manage to give you everything you deserved in life. Because Lillian you indeed deserve the moon and the stars and if I could bring them down and give them to you I most certainly would. As the weeks stretched onto months and you began to grow and thrive I knew that you would be okay, we would be okay. I knew I would do anything in my power to give you everything you needed and then some. I knew you would be loved. I knew that your daddy was a hard worker and he would do everything in his power to provide for you. We didn’t have much but we had each other and that got us through.

Every year that passes I always seem to think you are so grown. So big. And every year I look back at your photographs and realize just how much growing you still have left to do. I hope that I am teaching you all that you need to know. That I am nurturing you in ways that a mother needs to in order for their daughter to grow up strong and sure of herself in this crazy world. Most of all I hope as you grow you don’t lose your sense of wonder, your curiosity and magic and your ability to believe in princesses and princes, fairies and giants, and mermaids and fairly tales with happy endings. Ten seems like such a big number. You are definitely no longer a baby or a toddler. You are now a young lady. You have goals and plans of your own. You also have three siblings that look up to you and cherish you and two parents that are in your corner and will always be here no matter what you need. You are gentle and kind, beautiful and self assured and so incredibly innocent. I admire you Lillian. So on your birthday this year I hope you know above all that you are precious and loved and while birthdays are indeed bittersweet they are welcome because that is another year we have with you my sweet girl. I love you!!

    -Mommy

Sarah… oh these photos.. what a TREASURE! Especially the ones with the pink blanket on Lillian’s head. *SWOON*. What a beautiful letter… it makes my heart happy to hear that at age ten she is still a believer in fairies and giants… i so often worry that in this day and age children are forced to grow up too fast. She is beautiful and so lucky to have you as her mama. Happy Birthday to Lillian. Much much love.

Sarah, she is just the cutest thing ever. Her freckles… and those bright beautiful eyes–they would light up a dark room. I loved your letter especially… “Every year that passes I always seem to think you are so grown. So big. And every year I look back at your photographs and realize just how much growing you still have left to do.” I feel the same way. Congrats and happy birthday to you too Sarah. xo (P.S. I love all the photos but I can’t stop staring at the ones with the blanket wrapped around her head.)
