Family as Art | Estes Park, CO Photographer

I am in bed on my laptop with a cup of cold coffee, a baby on the breast and the Christmas station on my Spotify app. It’s a good life folks… and that is where I am at in this season of my life. That is what my version of multitasking looks like here. I have so much blogging to do and so many sessions that demand to be shared and I don’t even know where to begin. At this rate I will be blogging THIS year’s sessions– next year.I am feeling so overwhelmed with gratitude this Holiday season though. This year was my busiest yet, but if I am being candid with you all–this is the one area that I suffer when I am juggling all of the responsibilities that come with maintaining a business and a family. My blog suffers… and that’s going to change because I am always eager and excited to share what I have been up to. Big plans, folks. I hope to get fresh tutorials, some new features and lots of personal images too because it makes my heart happy.

The family I am sharing today is one I cherish. I am not even just saying this because this amazing mama once sent me the largest box of brownies I have ever seen while I was still pregnant with our Daisy, or because she sends me Christmas cards plastered with the images I took of their family all over them (Hint friends, Photographers LOVE this.)  I have now gotten to photograph them two years in a row. This Mama is a talented photographer and so getting to document her family in this season of their life has been such a pleasure. I literally counted the days until our session day. It was such a high point in my year in fact. The curly hair, the sense of adventure and even just their laid back and open spirits… it made for a special experience up in the Colorado Mountains. One of the biggest gifts I have gotten (yes, even more amazing than brownies) are the friendships I foster from the families I photograph. Even if I never get to photograph them again, being able to follow their family as their children grown and change is a privilege. Dad spun the kids, Mama snuggled them close and we all laughed as we tried not to lose our shoes in the tall grasses. There was a soft quality to the light this day and so everything was a bit dewy, but it really added something special to the already gorgeous surrounding mountain-scapes.

      Sarah,

Your photos tell a story that everyone dreams of seeing in their own heads and the stories that they want to come true. You capture everything!! I love your stories you tell and your own. You make newbies like me have hope and want to continue against all odds. 🙂

Oh my goodness, these images just take my breath away. I absolutely love the concept of capturing raw and pure emotions in our everyday lives. Capturing those true connections between families without forcing a pose!!! So much love and passion is portrayed in a way that is so timeless.
I would love the opportunity to escape the everyday grind and hustle and bustle to explore this side of photography and learn to capture these precious memories in a way like I’ve never known!!
To be able to partake in a weekend mentorship would mean the world to my small growing business that has created such a ridiculously crazy passion and drive for my being.

I grew up in a family where we weren’t as close as I’d hoped we would be. It was good but I don’t have close relationships with my parents and sibling like I strive to have in my own family, the closeness I long for in my photos.
The warmth, the love, sincerity, closeness.
I want to desperately know how to show that with my photography and I KNOW that being mentored by you would advance the forever moments I want people to remember. Not everyone will want that style, but those who already have it will be drawn.
