M4H P52 “Me, Myself and I” and “My Happy Place” Eye Candy

Getting started on our Winner and Eye candy for themes “Me, Myself and I” and “My Happy Place.” Initially I was going to do two separate posts for both themes but they intertwine and I don’t want to bombard you with blog posts. We recently traveled out of state to teach a workshop with a group of FABULOUS photographers, but playing catch up has been a bit crazy so this was my solution. The upside is we are going to pick FOUR winners in this post because as always you guys are super awesome AND I had the hardest time choosing.

Also a quick reminder that I am looking towards 2015 and our Project 52 group. I have had the pleasure of hosting this wonderful project for going on four years now. I would love to host this again, but want to be sure of the interest. If there is a project or something else you might want to see in lieu I am completely open to feedback on that as well. I have been bouncing ideas off friends and some themes we came up with is doing away with weekly themes all together and doing a lifestyle take. This isn’t traditional lifestyle though. This is photography as a lifestyle. If you are super passionate about landscapes shoot that. If it is your family, shoot that. If it is street photography, do that. The goal is to get you shooting more of what you love. Eye Candy and our weekly posts will be the same however. We also have thought of maybe doing letters of the alphabet, or a one lens challenge (whether that be your DSLR or your camera phone.) I am open to ALL ideas. I want this to be about you.

If you are the Winner for this week contact me via the Fan Page, Contact forms or the email in the info area of the Facebook fan page and I will send you an action set or preset collection of your choosing! (If you would like something no pressure ha!) I am also releasing a new action collection so you can wait and nab those instead since they come this Friday.

    Let’s get started!

I’ve been a little obsessed with the stockphoto app, Snapwire lately. One of the requests was for portraits of contrasting people. Cop/Robber, Firefighter/Arsonist. I remembered I still had some of my old firefighting gear around, dragged hubby out back as my assistant and put these two photos together.

    43/52 | Me, myself and I

This was a hard one for me. I don’t get in front of the camera often, especially not up close and personal. I had no idea what I was going to do for this shot, so while I was outside with the girls I just lay on the ground and started taking selfies. Then my husband came home on his break and started making me laugh.

This is me. I don’t love this image, but it is me and it is real. I tell my clients how beautiful they are in their photos, because often they don’t see it. It’s so hard to see the beauty in ourselves, to accept who we are and love who we are.

I am not perfect, and neither is this photo. But it is me and I know my kids will want to see me in photos too.

    Me – The Artist

It’s taken 3 years to settle into who I am as an creator of visual art for all to see. Me…none of these things but have been called all of this things. Yes they hurt, but the power in proving them wrong has greatly surpassed my fears that they will ever become true. A big heart and a positive being, just me.

My first shot at a self portrait, taken quickly while my son was napping! I swear i’m not always this serious Ha! Quite the opposite. I never get in front of the camera so this was definitely something different for me.

Week 43 | Me | Mandy Marie Photography

There is this part of me that I really love. This part of me that is Mommy to 4 sweet kids; 2 more than people see. The part that remembers my twin girls, Ruthie and Imogene, born far too soon at only halfway through our pregnancy. They were mono-mono twins, and we knew the risk, but losing them was the hardest thing I have ever been through. They only ever lived in me and that I got that much makes me incredibly grateful. This week I received a package in the mail from a client that I hold so dear to me as we share the pain of infant loss. A friend of hers started making Angel Gowns out of wedding dresses. She sent her a box full to keep and deliver through the Helping Hands Organization. As she went through the box the last package was a set marked for twin girls. Without hesitation she sent them to us to remember our girls, and my heart soared when I opened the box and gently took them out. As I hung them in the tree to capture their beauty against the morning sun the wind blew through them and they danced together. Those angel girls of mine have a tremendous way of always staying close to their Mama’s heart, and I can just picture them dancing in their new, beautiful gowns.

    Me, Myself and I

I’ve never really thought of myself as creative. I’ve taken photographs forever, but have always seen photography as a way of recording events, witnessing my life and the life of others. This past year, I’ve started to see the creativity and expression in my photography, particularly because of this project. As I grow and develop as an artist, I release my art into the world. Maybe these seeds will land on fertile ground and grow into something else. Maybe they will feed someone or something else. Maybe they will whither and die. I don’t know and I can’t control it. All I can do is burst open.

i’m not a “selfie” person but i took this in a reflection at the art roof garden at the met this afternoon and liked how it turned out

Sheena Wagstaff, head of the Met’s department of Modern and Contemporary Art, said of this rooftop art installation, “It’s a comment on perception and the way people see themselves. On one hand, it’s profound; on the other, it’s fun.” — at Metropolitan Museum of Art Roof Garden.

Me, Myself and I – 3 Ring Imaging – Something about myself that is odd at 41 yrs old- I play Roller Derby! I have played for 4 yrs now. I am on the Flathead Valley Roller Derby team called the Big Mountain Misfits. I LOVE IT. Derby is my “me time” – it is my release – my therapy – my anti anxiety drug of choice – and I get to skate and hit and laugh with a bunch of kick ass ladies – Plus it’s a wonderful cardio sweat bath….I don’t know how much longer my body can do it – but I think ladies hockey league is next:) I think it’s important for my kids to see me active and having my own passions – like Photography.

as it was with many other people, this week was hard. hard for me to even visualize. it dawned on me this morning that I should just let my oldest daughter be in charge. how did she see me? so, she is totally responsible for this {and many impressive others actually!}… I wanted a field and she went from there, composing her own shots completely! even asking me to “read a book” {possibly a shout out to the fact that her and I laid in bed together and read our books, that we can’t seem to put down, for over an hour this morning}.
I just love HER vision {of me!} in this shot so much…

    43/52 Me, Myself and I

I struggled this week…I don’t do “Me” very well. So I came up with this! I am a mommy of two wonderful kiddos! I am a wife to a loving husband. I am a daughter to a mom who I know, though there are miles between us, will always be there. I am a sister to five beautiful nonjudgmental ladies who let me be me at all times! I am a friend to the most supportive women whom I share many glorious memories filled with laughter. I am a huge San Francisco Giants fan and have been since the Candlestick days! I consider myself a runner who has a love hate relationship with the sport, I have completed a full marathon, some half marathons and I am currently training for my first Ragnar race. I have a huge passion for music of all different genres…I am a lyric girl and the words are what gets me in a song. I am a teacher to my littles but I also taught elementary school for 10 years. I have a love of wine and met my husband while working at a winery in Northern California. I love to cook but can’t give out many recipes because I make a lot of them up! I love to dance and can’t help myself when the beat drops. I am a photographer, I sold my first image this year and though I still have a lot to learn I am enjoying the ride.

Out back in my garden that borders the Florida Everglades is my happy place. Tonight we had a Great Blue Heron fishing, and three Mallards waiting for their food, a mom squirrel and her 3 babies were also playing around. Shortly after taking this photo a Red Shouldered Hawk flew in, in an attempt to pick up either the Great Blue Heron or a Duck. Not sure I would have been to happy about that.

We had our first winter storm today. I wait all year for this. There’s a little snow on those mountains, a fire in the fire place, we’re turning the clocks back tonight. I just dug my Uggs out of the closet, the air conditioner stopped humming and I’ll be wearing a sweater out to dinner tonight. This is just really a snapshot from my front yard..nothing special in a photography sense..but this is it for me..this is what makes my heart sing. My family, my little house, this view. Falling into winter in a rather dizzy delight…my happy place

Week 44 | My Happy Place.

We moved to Georgia from Iowa a year ago this week. It was a rough year. I was so excited for the move and then when we were met with challenges I unintentionally blamed this new place. Something in the last 2 months has changed. Ever since school started this place went very quickly from ‘where we live’ to ‘home’. Our neighborhood fills me up. Coming home makes me happy. Watching my kids here, making friends, playing, exploring, riding bikes, and just being happy.
