M4H P52 “Strength” Winner and Eye Candy

Jumping right into last week’s images we have our Winner and Eye Candy from last week’s Strength Theme. This post is always a highlight of my week. So often the stories and captions pull me in as much as the images, and the thought behind your photographs tell such a story. This week was incredibly raw and I was just blown back and moved to tears more than once.

When I am looking for images to feature for our Project 52 Eye Candy posts it is rarely about the prettiest photo in the gallery, the technicality, the precision. It is also about the thought behind it. I love all the variations and creativity behind the photos shared with me and really just find myself clicking through multiple times. I should also add since we are nearly done for the year and we have some wonderful new faces and the rules kind of slip by (and there really aren’t many anyhow), that I do choose images specifically for eye candy that were taken during that time period for the theme. Sometimes an image will grab me right away but then I will notice it was taken well before the theme date so please do not think I do not love your image. I know sometimes however that Flickr can get the exif data wrong so if your photo was taken during that time week and you would like to be shared in eye candy please do share in your caption and drop me a line so I know! <3

The winner is absolutely welcome to contact me for a $40.00 Gift Card to the shop towards any Photoshop Actions or Textures of their choosing.

This is my daughter Lexi who was born 12 weeks prematurely and passed away when she was 5 days old. She is the very definition of strength to me. In surviving the loss of her I know that I have strength to carry on, no matter what life throws at me.

I was at a loss for this week’s challenge, and then I looked up and saw my grandma’s rose. She is the strongest woman I’ve ever known. She passed in April, and I still have those moments when I want to call her and share a story or just chat. She was more than just a grandma; she was a friend. I miss her.

Strength is burying someone you love. Strength is sacrificing so others can live their lives free. Strength does know there is no going back. Strength is to face the day when all you want is to have them home safe. Strength is stiff upper lip when all you want to do is cry. Strength is to face the enemy in the eye knowing you will die. Strength is all you have when all is a memory you hold on to of them. Strength is to stand and hear the last taps play as they lower the casket into the ground. Strength is moving on with your life knowing they will always be in your heart until the day you die. Strength is not just for the Soldiers, Airmen/Women, Sailors or Marines, it’s what the families left behind show every day. To have someone you love and care about serving in the military takes strength.

My boy… his strength amazes me. He is paralyzed from the waist down. But we still work on walking with him. It’s hard for him. He tells me he is tired. But he keeps going anyway. I have learned so much through him even though he doesn’t realize it. To me, he is strength.

    “God did not promise
    peace without pain,
    joy without sorrow,
    nor sun without rain.
    But God did promise
    STRENGTH for the day,
    rest for the labor,
    light for the way,
    grace for the trials,
    help from above,
    unfailing sympathy,
    undying love.”

I feel a little like a squirrel this month, a little like this leaf, holding on with everything I’ve got to the last sunshine and warmth, storing up for the long cold that’s coming. I struggle with winter. And so even though I know by now that it will all end and the sun will come again in a few months, I feel myself ferreting away strength to get me through the dark.

This is where I draw my strength every day…my family. Really pure and simple…no big explanation needed. Love them to my core.

Oscar is only two and last week we thought he wasn’t going to make it. He became anemic and just wasn’t the same dog. He is best friends with my 19 month old son and I couldn’t bare to lose him. We now call Oscar our miracle puppy. As of today he is running around like his old self. He is the strongest little guy I know. 90 percent of dogs that become anemic don’t make it…and ours did. We are so thankful because he is such a precious part of our family.

On her first Christmas, at just 10 months old, we were in a car accident and lost her daddy…My whole world was closing in on me…I could not imagine living without him…yet there she was…my baby girl who needed me more than ever…Because of her God gave me the strength and purpose to keep going and not give into the grief and despair…There is a park a block from our house that we gave a memorial to and this is his memorial rock…he loved the renaissance and this memorial is perfect…she loves telling everyone that this is her “daddy’s park”…and I thank God for her and the little girl she has become every day…sometimes I wonder how I got to today but when I look at her I know…

It took a lot of strength and courage for this little guy to see his beloved grandpa in the hospital. Not at all in his comfort zone until he saw the construction trucks outside grandpa’s hospital window.

On those worn out days, sometimes all I need is a good dose of saltwater to give me strength and sanity again 🙂
