    M4H13wk47 HEART

    Caption:

This was a fun attempt at using a construction paper tube with a heart cut out in the middle of a circle and placed over my lens to create the heart shaped bokeh lights in the background. It took me a while to figure out the placement of the camera from the heart and the heart from the lights to create the shapes with my zoom lens but I think it turned out pretty cool : )

This image is an attempted recreation of a portrait done of me years ago by my ex. Both of our hearts went through much and parts still hurt. We were briefly engaged. It came to a point in our relationship that a missed conversation is what hurt us. I needed it, but I wouldn’t speak up for myself or us. I let that fester, and I have never been proud in the direction I allowed myself to go. We both made mistakes and were too young to be smart about our decisions unfortunately.

This is my brother-in-law, Glenn. After many years in sales, Glenn made a career change to follow his heart. This school year, he got his first teaching job and is now a 7th grade basketball coach. He has always wanted to coach, and is loving it so much. Two weeks ago, Glenn’s very independent, “healthy” mother was diagnosed with Stage 4 bone cancer. She had no idea. Glenn, my sister & my nephew, drove 6 hours to be with her in Missouri. Glenn was with her during her first chemo treatment, had to witness her being placed into an ambulance because of her pain and sudden immobility, and his life (as he knew it) was forever changed. As much as Glenn wanted to stay by his mom’s side in the hospital, he made the decision to come home so that he could be with his team at their very first game. They drove home & arrived just an hour before the game. I know that Glenn had his mom on his mind the whole time, but he was there for his team…and they won! 🙂 Our hearts are broken for him, but we know that he is just like his mom…a fighter and has the heart of a champion.

    I (heart) photography.

This week, I received my copy of the Canadian Geographic magazine’s Special Pets Edition, and in it, was a full page photo taken by me.

This made me so happy. And it strengthened my passion.

    I’m officially a published photographer!

Thank you everyone for always supporting me! I really appreciate your comments and favourites – it means to much!

The semester is almost over. Damn. Went by so fast. Half way through my last year!

    P52/47 Heart

    Caption:

My grandfather, Erasmo Inzerillo, enlisted in the US Navy in April 1951 at the age of 19. He transferred to the Marine Corps in November 1952 as a medic. He was sent to Korea in April 1953 and wounded July 19th, earning him this Purple Heart medal. After 16 months in Korea, he was transferred back to the Navy in July 1954. These are those official orders.

He was discharged in April 1955, just in time for the arrival of my mom in May. He served 27 months in the Navy and 21 months in the Marines. He was so proud of this medal and the others he was awarded for his service. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and person. He was courageous and loyal. He had the biggest heart of anyone I know. He made me want to be a better person. Sadly, he passed away on November 15th, 2004. But I know he is looking down on me, and he is proud.

    47. Heart

    Caption:
“To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable.”
