I think I might have an addiction to light, which I guess is a good thing if you are a photographer. Honestly, I crave light and this past week there was none in my part of Ohio. Just blah, freezing, cold air and flat, dull light. It really brought me down. Then yesterday afternoon as my daughter was playing with her dollhouse in our sitting room, I noticed this magnificent glow of warmth and light pouring through the window. It was truly heavenly and made me so happy.β™₯

    M4H 52 Weeks Project – “Light”

“Every moment of light and dark is a miracle.”
    Walt Whitman

My schedule has been too packed this week to get out and experiment with light during the days. Had to create my own light at night instead. I do love how candlelight dances! When I downloaded pics, every frame was unique and different. πŸ™‚

Can’t wait to view all your light photos. This is an amazing group!

My son likes to have playmates. He likes someone to play with him and sometimes he gets very sad he doesn’t yet have another sibling (that’s a long story). But there are days he enjoys the solitude of his room with his toys, while lounging on his soft pillows.

    Let there be light! (6/52)

Another week another strobist shot! Given the theme light I wanted to do something different. I considered all sorts of things, but eventually had this idea. I wanted to do something that would look mysterious and interesting, and I think I’ve achieved it.

This is pretty much as it came out of the camera with only a couple of tweaks in photoshop.

Strobist into: 3 speedlights, all three snooted to varying degrees. But I’m not giving more info. I want people to try and work out how it’s done. Please don’t give it away in the comments if you know.

Thanks go to Mr Squarepx himself for help on this one: www.flickr.com/photos/squarepx/

It doesn’t take eyes to see, it takes vision. My husband woke me up with a phone call this morning saying, “Get up quick, grab your camera! If you don’t hurry you’ll miss it!” I love that he thinks of me and that he can find the beauty in ice covered weeds as he was driving down a very busy street. If’ he hadn’t “seen” this, I wouldn’t have this amazing shot.

A quick run up to Traverse City Michigan (leelanau peninsula) had me clciking away while the sun and the snow were just putting on one heck of a display for us. 1-3 feet of snow in my places, and just endless opportunities to take pictures.

Luckily, this was one of the moments that the sky had parted for a brief moment.

Even with the age gap between my two daughters, they still manage to find ways to bond with one another. Even if it’s just watching cartoons together on the laptop. Love the dim light in this shot. Just strong enough to show up their beautiful faces.

    Light

Also shot in my new friend, Manual Mode, this shot from my Super Bowl Sunday only seemed fitting for this weeks theme. My mom and I spent the afternoon over at Clearwater Beach and decided to make a day out of it. She had asked me, as we were sitting on a bench by the beach, if I really wanted to stay for the sunset. Although we were both cold, and had about an hour to go before sunset, I told her that I wanted to stay because I had prayed and asked God for a bright red and orange sunset to take pictures of. According to my phone, the sun was supposed to set at at 6:10, we kept watching the clock and at 5:30 or so, I turned to her and said jokingly, “Looks like I’m not getting my sunset.” Then I laughed. 6:10 rolled around and what do I get but the exact sunset I asked for, and more! When God shows up, He shows off, and boy did He ever show up last night. πŸ™‚

Kansas sunsets can be so dramatic. A camera can’t even do the whole expanse justice. Right before a storm rolls in it’s just a whirlwind of greys and blues with streaks of peaches and creams all grounded by the brilliant gold of the grasses.
