M4H P52 Eye Candy | Indoors

    Last week’s theme was “Indoors” and as a lover of lifestyle imagery I am SO excited to jump right in and share what you have all been up to! I am always blown away but I have to say this week has been my absolute favorite. I had the hardest time picking a winner. You are seriously all winners in my eyes and I wish to God I could share every single photo in our flickr pool. I really do hope you will all join us again next year. I have seen so much love in this group. So much growth. I am seriously SO proud. Okay I will stop gushing now lol!!

    If you are just starting out or joining our group and wondering what Project 52 is this is everything in a nut shell.
    Our goal starting the year in 2012 was to capture a photo every week for the entire year. To be considered for Eye Candy as a Winner the image has to be taken FOR that week. I know sometimes we have something just perfect for a theme and we want to share so that is okay and those can still be considered for Eye Candy but to win you do need to have taken the images that week. The goal is to come away with an amazing keepsake. A photo from every week of your year documenting your year. I do provide themes and you can absolutely use those. You can also make up your own or go your own way and that is absolutely okay. I throw in a wild card week now and again to let you express yourself and give you a brain break as well!
    I don’t choose every single image submitted during the week but I love to grab as many as I possibly can because I am always SO inspired. We had prizes the beginning of the year but ran out of sponsors so if you are a vendor and would like to contribute for 2013 please by all means message me! I will also be throwing in some extra prizes from my shop next year. To be considered for Eye Candy you also need to upload to our flickr group and you can find that at flickr.com/my4hens. Everyone is welcome. You do not need to be a professional. You don’t even need a DSLR. Please just hop right in. New themes go up every Sunday and Eye Candy is featured on Mondays!

    I also want to add a quick note that I will be looking for a couple awesome helpers next year. This would just be someone to keep an eye on the flickr pool and help comment on images and spread the love. It would also be to monitor posts in our flickr community group so that if I were to miss something people would have a somewhat speedy reply. I Have my hat in many different rings and overlook things sometimes and don’t want anyone to feel left out or ignored!

    Also a quick note that the sale on Actions, Lr presets and textures are still in full swing by using the code Thankyou so if you were hoping to grab any of the goodies in my shop you can still at a very substantial discount. They are all 55% off!! The biggest sale of the year!!

    I couldn’t decide between two images this week so I am posting both. My mother-in-law, who cares for my littlest little, is on vacation this week and I had to take some time off work to help care for her and I couldn’t be happier. I wish I could be home with my children all the time. Moments like these may seem so ordinary but are so extraordinary. This image is part of a day-in-the-life-of project I took on today..

    Christmas gifts are arriving. I am wrapping them up. I think this is my favorite gift this year. For my 8 YO son, he was taken a trip around the world last year in school and visited Russia in one classroom. They had these nesting dolls, he has asked me for them all year since then. I have been looking but they are all very girly. Then I saw these on Amazon. Perfect! They will be great indoor fun in the weeks and years to come!

    The My Four Hens Project 52 theme this week is Indoors.

    But… I have no words to share.

    I ask Dominic to sit in front of the Christmas tree as I light this candle. Tears threaten to spill again (which feels selfish, how dare I cry when my children are safe?). I take a deep breath and steady my camera. Dominic bows his head in prayer when he’s asked to think about what Christmas means to him. I can barely see him as I focus on the candle. Do you see him there? Snap. A moment. So much changes in a moment.

    (Editing to add that a friend thought Dominic’s pose made a peace sign… how appropriate. <3)

    I didn’t intend to write anything to accompany this image. There are just no words.

    My children do not know what happened yesterday. I have struggled with what to share here on my blog… I write my emotions, it’s how I process things. But this… this is unfathomable, inconceivable, and incomprehensible. And it feels terribly selfish and indulgent to talk about how *I* feel. Yet… I have to write.

    I decided not to share a clear image of my children today out of respect for the families. They are facing the deepest pain imaginable and it feels wrong to be publicly acknowledging my blessings. My last thought before sleeping and my first thought upon awakening was for the families of the Newtown children. I have children in elementary school; I also have a child that is about Adam’s age. I have a child on the autism spectrum. Fear grips me, grief envelopes me, helplessness overcomes me. I open my freezer and see Anna’s mini-pancakes… my heart stops for every parent opening their cupboards and seeing their child’s favorite cereal. I trip over Dominic’s shoes in the middle of the floor… and I thank God they are there for me to trip over. I spent real quality time with them today and, of course, hugged them fiercely when they got home from school yesterday. I will not be cross with Dominic when he’s dawdling in the morning or snap at Anna because she won’t get out of bed. Like every other parent in the world who is trying to understand what happened yesterday, there is much I won’t take for granted ever again.

    From the deepest part of my humanity, to the parents and families of the Sandy Hook School and to the Newtown community, please know that we all wish this horror wasn’t real, that your children and loved ones will be honored and remembered, that this tragedy will forever change how people parent their children… how I parent my children. I am so very, very sorry.

    My six year old. Just like any other six year old. I have no words for what happened that terrible day but I was wrecked with anxiousness waiting to see his smiling happy face walk out those doors this past Friday. I fought the tears. I layed on chest that night and listened to his little heart beat. I stared at that sweet face for as long as I could and smiled. Only smiling because he is still here. He is still mine. It could have been anyone’s six year old and that’s why it cuts me to the core.

    M4H ~ Week 52 – Indoors

    I’ve been quiet the last few days because I just don’t know what to say. My heart is so heavy and my tears fall easily. I pray:
    God grant me the serenity
    to accept the things I cannot change;
    courage to change the things I can;
    and wisdom to know the difference.
    Living one day at a time;
    Enjoying one moment at a time;
    Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
    Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is,
    not as I would have it;
    Trusting that He will make all things right
    if I surrender to His Will;
    That I may be reasonably happy in this life
    and supremely happy with Him Forever in the next. Amen.

    I love Christmas. Everything about it. The reason for it, the beautiful songs (and the funny ones!), the lights, the magic, the wonder. It’s always such a happy & peaceful time for me. I was trying to get pictures like this with my sons, but this one of our sweet pup, Aspen feels so peaceful to me. My prayer is that others will feel peace & love today.

    This is Grandpa Woody. He’ll be 101 and 8 months on Monday. He’s becoming rapidly weak, and I know his time is short. After this week, I feel greedy to feel sad about loosing him. Something told me to drop everything and drive home this weekend to spend the evening with him. Before I left Sunday morning, I asked him if I could take his picture because I never have since starting my photography journey. I will treasure this moment forever.

    Saskatchewan winters are pretty cold so we spend a lot of time indoors, and sometimes we have to force ourselves to step away from the television and computer and do things together as a family.

    This weekend we made our first gingerbread house, and my 2 and a half year old daughter loved it. She was very careful putting each candy in its place and was so proud of the finished product.

    I’m happy for these special moments together, and I’m happy to be able to capture them in photos.
