  1. M4H P52 Hometown Eye Candy

First and foremost even though I posted this on the fan page my prayers and thoughts are with you all in The Eastern portion of the United States. Hurricane Sandy is scary and I can only imagine how you must all feel. Stay safe! Most of my family is in Connecticut and Rhode Island where we moved from recently and we are pretty much glued to the weather channel around here. I will say I had no idea how special and poignant this theme would be this week with Sandy on her way. Lots of love everyone!

    Let’s get to it!!

My hometown is dominated by a mediterranean climate and Spanish architecture. We have lots of doors like this around town and they absolutely delight me.

I have a runner-up image in my photo stream that shows more of the geography of where I live (Santa Barbara, CA). It’s a close second and maybe I’ll even change my mind in a day or two!

I feel honored that this historic and very spiritual place is in my own back yard. A shrine, a church, a place of meditation, a place for hope, a location where Cubans gather…La Ermita de la Caridad (Shrine of Our Lady of Charity) is all of these things. She stands in all her spiritual glory, facing the homeland of my parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. I feel so lucky to have her in my hometown.

Week 43 ~ My Hometown, the 360 Bridge

The My Four Hens Project 52 theme this week is My Hometown. I wish we had this theme the week after the ClickinWalk… I had so many fun photos of the University of Texas. But it’s good to have a fresh image and challenge! I made a big mistake and waited until late in the week to get my photo. I live about 20 minutes from downtown (40 with traffic) and put it off. Dominic woke up yesterday morning with a fever, he is so sick. I think we are back into the cycle of fevers, it was just 5.5 weeks ago when he was sick last. Darn PFAPA Syndrome.
This image is of Austin’s 360 Bridge (also known as Pennybacker Bridge) which spans the Colorado River. It is a classic landmark and I’ve never taken a photo of it. My SOOC was a little blah, taken at 2 this afternoon. All of my edits were done with levels adjustments.

Having grown up in bustling Sydney we have consciously moved to a small coastal town and made it our families ‘hometown” – it used to be our annual holiday destination until 5 years ago.

We love its sleepy moments – when the locals get the great restaurants and cafe’s all to ourselves – equally we love the surf carnivals, triathlons, food/ art festivals and tourists that flood into town on a regular basis. I dont think I could ever live without the sea close by and just the odd happy crowd!

    Sandwich, Illinois. 😀

Ok, so I’m in CT now. But Sandwich IL (no joke!) is where I’m from. And that will always be my hometown. Soon as I heard the theme, this popped into my head. Just had to do it. 😀

Backdrop is two pieces of scrapbook paper. Just loved the pattern and how it contrasted with my little sign.

We live in a small town called Independence, KY (a suburb of Cincinnati, OH) nothing fancy mostly farms, one traffic light and a courthouse that dates back to 1842, but I can also get to the nearest Target in 20 minutes. I didn’t grow up here, but we’ve called this home for over 20 years. This week we lost a very dear friend who was born here, grew up here and lived here most of his life, this was his “hometown”. When I was trying to figure out what to photograph for this weeks theme, I decided on the Independence cemetery, it’s a beautiful place in the fall. Goodbye, dear friend….. we will miss you!

My daughter in her little gypsy costume dancing in front of the snowcapped mountains of Colorado.

We moved to the mountains of Colorado three years ago. It was definitely an adjustment for me. There are some things that I absolutely love and will miss if our journey in life takes us elsewhere, but on the flip side there are some things that I’m still trying to get used to. The beauty that surrounds us is breathtaking and is something I would miss for sure.

It’s not where I grew up but when I think of home now, I think not of a town but of this mountain. I’ve lived on its slope for over 10 years now. We recently remodeled and added these windows where a closet used to be.

When I saw the bird sitting on the Francisco street sign, I thought it was a perfect representation of my town. So many parts of the city and Bodega Bay were made famous by Hitchcock’s “The Birds” that I had to stop and snap a picture. Pretty sure the bird was posing for me! 🙂

This is one of my favourite places in Rosetown. I love doing photo sessions there and walking the trail with my family. I think every town needs to have a beautiful park or trail like this.

This is not my hometown. This is my Auntie’s. I was there this week at her funeral. She will not have wanted us to be sad, but to see the joy and beauty in the world. A wonderful, inspiring woman; too young to leave us but life can be cruel. Life is also beautiful, and so very precious, and we must not take those we love for granted. Hard times ahead, I shall look for the rays of sunshine in them.

Peregian Beach….. where my Dad taught me how to fish, where I spent every moment possible as a kid, where I had my first kiss and my first broken heart, where I made best friends, where I spent the first 20 years of my life, where I now take my children and they love it too. So many memories here. This place will always make me happy. Magic.

Without question, the standout feature of my hometown is the beautiful mountain that looks over our little town. One of my favourite things to do is climb it.

Our little town is very quirky. There are antique stores and coffee shops. There is the only authentic silent movie theatre still in existence, an old pub in the main street and a great sense of community spirit.

We are very lucky to live in such a great little town 🙂

  2. M4H P52 Theme | Black and White

I have been doing a simple little lifestyle project for my own family and children. It is basically a photo a day of my children doing whatever it is we have been doing that day. I have found black and white was preferable because it holds such a powerful and emotive yet simple quality. No distractions. Just my children. Of course I process images in color as well because I love color and it is nice but generally speaking the photo for the day is in black and white. I would love to see YOUR black and white. I can be anything you want to photograph. It doesn’t have to be lifestyle or even a person. Can’t wait to go through the gallery! I will be back in the AM for lots of eye candy!!
